Red tape holds up Mercedes entry to depots
The luxury Mercedes daily service rolled out on the Bihar-Jharkhand National Highway 33 on December 12 is yet to find space in the State’s bus depots. Faced with the apathy of the Jharkhand State Transport Department, three Mercedes buses - two for Ranchi and one for Jamshedpur — have not been allotted any parking space in the depot.

The state-of-art bus service, with facilities such as a wi-fi connection, is run by Gaurav Luxury Travels Private Ltd in collaboration with the Bihar State Road Transport Corporation.

Amresh Rai, area manager for Gaurav Luxury in Jharkhand, said: “A tie-up with the State transport corporation has not materialised yet due to lethargic work of the department. In Bihar, we are bringing 100 luxury buses on long routes across the State, seeking public demand in the initial phase, with great response from the Bihar Government. For Jharkhand, we are yet to find parking space in the bus depots.”

“We are running the bus counters outside the depot in Ranchi as well as Jamshedpur, near our offices. The State Government has taken no pains to provide us with space in the depots by finalising the agreement for the inter-state bus service,” Rai said. The agreement includes the package of parking charges, bus-counter and a small waiting lounge.

Minister for Transport in Jharkhand, Champai Soren told The Pioneer, “We are looking into the matter. I even asked the Secretary in this regard. It is late but we will complete the work as soon as possible.”

Sources in the transport department said all paper work for the Mercedes buses has been finalised by the departmental secretary. They are now awaiting the Minister’s nod.

It has been more than ten days since the launch of the luxury bus service and the red buses are seen standing on road near Over-bridge bus depot in the State capital.

Gaurav Luxury has been developing infrastructure of a waiting lounge and motels on State highways, and bus-counters in State bus-depots under PPP mode in Bihar and has offered the Government of Jharkhand the same proposal.

“We wish to provide a luxury bus service to commuters in Jharkhand and connect Dhanbad, Deoghar, Bokaro and other cities with more buses,” owner of Gireesh Infrastructure Private Ltd and Gaurav Luxury Bus Service Private Ltd said.
