New Year wishes from Russia, with love

Giving impetus to bilateral relations, Russia on Saturday said it looks forward to further “comprehensive reinforcing” its “privileged” strategic partnership with India.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has sent handwritten New Year greetings to his Indian counterpart Pratibha Patil, noting that the last year marked further strengthening of relations of privileged strategic partnership, which reflects the dynamically developing multi-faceted bilateral ties.

“I am convinced that through our joint efforts, we will progress in consistently implementing our priority projects in trade and economy, science and technology and humanitarian cooperation that serve core interests of the peoples of Russia and India,” Medvedev said.

In a separate letter extending New Year greetings to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Medvedev said, “We look forward to further comprehensive reinforcing of our relations of privileged strategic partnership,” he said. He said Russia was convinced that fruitful cooperation with India on topical issues of contemporary global and regional politics in the framework of the UN, G20, BRICS and other multilateral formats will continue to serve as an important stabilising factor in international stability and security.

“I am sure that the positive thrust aimed at implementing the agreements in key spheres of bilateral cooperation will facilitate new tangible results for the benefit of Russia’s and India’s people.”

Recalling Singh’s recent visit to Moscow, Medvedev told Patil that the concluded agreements set up a goal to continue constructive interaction in international affairs in order to strengthen stability and security in Asia and the world.

Diplomatic relations between the two countries warmed up since the cold war era and the two decided to upgrade the relationship to a strategic partnership level. In 2010, it was mutually decided to elevate the bilateral relationship to the level of a special and privileged strategic partnership’.
