Random checking by West district police yielded results after a gun supplier was arrested with 18 country made pistols. Identified as Ravinder, he was travelling in a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) to avoid being caught. A police team nabbed him when he was seated in a bus plying between Old Delhi railway station to Uttam Nagar route. A police team boarded the bus at Subhash Nagar Metro station and the country made weapons were seized from a sack that he was carrying. His subsequent questioning revealed startling facts that the demand for country made arms increases during winters as criminals use winters and fog to rob people.

Additional Commissioner of Police (West) V Ranganathan said, “The west district police has been checking DTC buses on a routine basis, on orders of the Commissioner. On Friday morning, when a police team was checking a DTC bus with registration number DL 1PC 9700 was searched; one of the passengers to tried to slip away from the bus. He was immediately stopped and a manual checking was conducted. The search of the sack conducted and the police team found country made guns hidden below a heap of vegetables

The man identified as Ravinder was arrested from the spot. A case under Arms act has been registered against him at Tilak Nagar, he added.

Ravinder was put to sustained questioning after which he revealed that he had bought these pistols from somebody in Meerut. He came to Delhi to sell these, as there is an increased demand of such arms in Delhi during winters. Robbers in Delhi use these country made pistols to loot people at night taking advantage of the dense fog on roads. He had come to Delhi from Meerut through train and got down at Old Delhi Railway Station in Delhi unchallenged. He then boarded the DTC bus from Old Delhi railway station to Uttam Nagar. He had to go to Nihal Vihar via Uttam Nagar to sell these rams.

He further revealed that these fire arms were normally sold for Rs 3,000 in places like Uttam Nagar in Delhi. Ravinder was also involved in cases of burglary.
