Differently-abled youth jumps off sixth floor of AIIMS, critical
A mentally-challenged youth allegedly attempted suicide jumping off the sixth floor of the AIIMS on Friday afternoon. The 23-year-old victim’s condition, identified as Usman, is critical after the incident.
Usman, son of Jaan Mohammad, lives with his parents at Ram Ghat in Wazirabad area. He was admitted to AIIMS on December 11 after he had himself cut his private organs, according to police.
A senior police official said, “It was around 2 pm when Usman suddenly got down from his bed in ward number six on the sixth floor of the hospital. He rushed towards the verandah and jumped off from there. Before his father, Jaan, and his elder brother could understand anything and stop him, Usman was lying in a pool of blood on the ground.”
Usman’s pelvis, which is a bone structure at the base of the spine connected with the legs, has been seriously damaged. Doctors say Usman’s condition is critical. No case has been registered in this connection so far.
The official said, “No foul play has been found in the incident. Usman’s parents told police that their son is mentally challenged and he jumped off the sixth floor in front of their eyes.”
