Security guard charred to death in Defence Colony
A 35-year-old security guard was charred to death in a fire incident in Defence Colony area of South Delhi. The guard, identified as Rakesh, was sleeping in his guard’s room of the C Block locality when fire broke out due to a short-circuit in the heater inside his room. The incident occurred at around 10:30 pm on Wednesday.
According to a fire official, a call was received at 10:30 pm on Wednesday. One fire engine was rushed to the spot. On dousing the fire, one man was found charred to death inside the house.
A police official said that the incident took place in C block area of Defence Colony. At the time of the incident, Rakesh was sleeping inside his room. The exact reason of the fire is yet to be ascertained. However, prima facie, it seems that the fire broke out due to a short circuit in the room heater, as a room heater was found in his room. Fire further spread in the entire room, as there was outlet to air.
The deceased was identified through an ID card in the room. He is survived by his wife and a child. His family members, who are based in Uttar Pradesh, have been informed about the incident.
