MCD tells Govt to transfer funds for development work
Peeved with the delay in transferring of required funds to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) by the Delhi Government to carry out development work in the city, Standing Committee Chairman Yogendra Chandolia on Thursday announced he would sit on dharna outside the residence of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dik**** or Delhi Secretariat Players Building if the adequate funds are not transferred.
Seeking intervention of Delhi Lieutenant Governor Tejendra Khanna in the matter, he also alleged that despite several reminders by Chief Accountant and Financial Advisor and even by Municipal Commissioner KS Mehra himself, the funds have not been giving on time, thus creating a problem in implementing various project and paying out pension and salaries of its employees.
“Because of the political rigidness, the funds are not being given. It is absolutely not true that the MCD has not withdrawn funds on time, we have been writing to them regularly since August. We faced troubles on several occasions, we could not pay pensions and salary on times,” he said. Chandolia further added somehow, the Corporation has been managing with its own revenue and because of the recklessness of the Government, the MCD is being criticised.
“Foreseeing its debacle in the upcoming MCD polls, the Delhi Government has gone crazy, thereby putting irrelevant blames on the civic body. The purpose of the Delhi Government behind this is to help the private power companies illegally as there is no such provision in the Delhi Budget,” added Chandolia. He also requested the L-G to order the Delhi Government to give the MCD an amount of Rs1,769 crore, that also includes the amount due to the civic body by January 1, 2012.
