Fog, chilly conditions prevail in most parts of State
The fog and chilly conditions that invaded the State on the New Year night prevailed till Monday forcing people to remain indoors, attendance in schools and colleges remained thin and the markets also wore a deserted look.
While moderate to heavy rain lashed many parts of the State on Sunday forcing Bhopalites to shiver on the first half of the day due to the cloudy conditions and chilly winds on Monday but as the day passed and the sun rose people got some relief as the temperature too rose with the sun and a maximum temperature of 20.9 degree C was recorded in the State capital while the minimum temperature was 14 degree C.
The condition in the commercial capital of the state Indore also remained like the State capital as clouds gathered in the skies and chilly winds began to blow, forcing residents to bring out their woollens.
While moderate to heavy rain lashed most parts of the state, the Indore division witnessed just a cloudy weather though chill prevailed in the air all through the day. The coming days will be more tough for the residents as the Met office has predicted a considerable fall in temperature.
The minimum temperature recorded in the city at 11.2 degree C while the maximum temperature was 20.9 degree C.
Change in weather was due to the upper air circulation system generated over Gwalior-Chambal region, said director regional meteorological centre Bhopal DP Dubey.
Weather experts claimed that the system was in effect over north-eastern parts of the State and was expected to cover the entire State for few more days.
The temperature recorded at other cities including Gwalior and Jabalpur was Gwalior maximum 17.4 degree C and minimum 13.1 degree C and Jabalpur recorded a maximum of 17.8 degree C and a minimum of 17.2 degree C.
Meanwhile, reports continued to pour in that a devastating hailstorm and heavy rain destroyed crops and property in several villages in Sehore and other districts. People in Chhindwara are witnessing intermittent rain for the past three days.
The hailstorm that lasted for 20 minutes damaged pulses and vegetables in Mutwalia Van, Muskra, Kalyanpura, Raipura, Rajukheda, Manpura, Fulmogra, Rolukhedi, Chapri, Gudi, Amla, and Mundla villages in Sehore. At several places, wheat crop had been reaped, while reaping was about to begin at other places. The district officials have been asked to provide detailed information about damages by the State Government.
Heavy rainfall was also recorded in Jabalpur, Mandla, Seoni, Umaria and Narsinghpur. Strong wind accompanied by rain was reported in Shajapur. According to the Meteorology Department, light to moderate rainfall occurred at many places over Chhattisgarh and east Madhya Pradesh, at few places over north west Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha and at isolated places over south west Madhya Pradesh.
