Move to drape Maya, symbol statues till polls lopsided: BSP
Showing his annoyance over Chief Election Commissioner’s order to drape the statues of elephants and Mayawati till the Assembly election, BSP national general secretary Satish Chandra Mishra said that the decision was unfortunate and one-sided.

“The Election Commission’s decision to put the statues of elephants and Chief Minister under veil is against the tenets of natural justice. The BSP was not given a chance to explain its position. The Election Commission issued notice on the petition of some political parties who have anti-Dalit mentality,” Mishra said on Saturday. Mishra said the Election Commission may order removal of bicycles from the roads as this is the Samajwadi Party’s election symbol or the CEC will order covering of the front facade of Chandigarh Airport which has a hand engraved over it. Or he would order removal of lotus from all ponds because it is the BJP’s election symbol. “The Central Government has initiated 150 projects running on names of senior Congress leaders. Statues of Indira Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sanjay Gandhi and Sarojini Naidu adorn the State,” he said.
