In a stark reminder of the molestation case on New Year’s Eve, yet another shocking incident of eve-teasing with a Delhi-based girl was reported from the millennium city on Thursday night. The molesters were two engineers of Maruti Suzuki company who were arrested by the police. However, in order to cover up the matter, police registered a case of brawl in a public place against both the accused persons.
The incident came to light on Thursday night at around 10.30 pm when the girl with two male friends had come from Delhi to Gurgaon for having dinner in Galleria market in DLF Phase-IV of the city. The accused persons, Himanshu (24) and Dev Ahlawat (25), were standing at a nearby shop and started passing lewd comments at the girl. Reacting to this, the friends of the girl objected and this resulted in a brawl among them. The fight led to damaging of a portion of the shop following which its owner Sanjay Kumar lodged a complaint with the police.
“On the way to Galleria market near a paan shop, Himanshu and Ahlawat misbehaved with the girl. When her friends intervened in the matter, it turned into a fight among them and it caused damage to the paan shop. Police received a complaint by one Sanjay Kumar, a paan shop owner in this regard,” said a police official. A case has been registered against Himanshu and Ahlawat under Section- 427 and 160 of IPC in police station DLF sector-29.
Both the accused were produced in the Gurgaon Civil Court on Friday and later on they were granted bail. However, no official confirmation in this regard was provided by the police and the efforts to contact the city police commissioner KK Sandhu, too, turned futile who disconnected the phone repeatedly.
Notably, the incidents of eve teasing, rape and molestation in the millennium city have become frequent. During New Year’s Eve celebrations, a girl from Delhi was molested by a group of about 20 people in front of Sahara Mall at busy Mehrauli-Gurgaon (MG Road).
On December 14 last year, a Delhi-based female bartender was abducted from Gurgaon and was raped on Mehrauli road by the cab driver she was traveling in. Earlier, on July 7 last year, a 25-year-old girl was molested and when she resisted the attempts of rape by the accused, she was thrown out from a moving Mercedes car near to Paras Hospital in DLF phase-II.
