    PM has special gift for overseas Indians

    Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday announced a special scheme of pension and insurance for overseas Indian workers on their return to the country. He also announced that now these overseas Indian could cast their votes in elections as Government has issued a notification to felicitate them as voters.

    Inaugurating the 10th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, he said these were the long standing demands of overseas Indians, who are playing an important role in the development of India.

    Manmohan Singh said that the Indian Government is very much cornered about the welfare of overseas Indians and was entering into agreements with other countries to save their rights in those countries, where they are employed. There are six million Indian are living in Gulf countries alone, so we have conveyed to these countries to appropriately look after the interests of Indian community.

    Prime Minister said that world was passing through a difficult phase because of global economic slow down. India is also facing similar difficult time but fundamentals of our economy are very strong.

    Despite an adverse international environment, Indian economy is still expected to grow by seven per cent during the current financial year. He said that since domestic saving rate is still 33 to 35 per cent, we are sure of regaining a growth rate of nine to 10 per cent in the near future.

    He said that we recognise the important role of Indian living abroad. Indian Diaspora has much more to contribute to build modern India.

    Chief guest Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Kamla Persad Bissessar said that more and more countries are becoming aware of the power Indian Diaspora to contribute not only to socio-economic development of their homeland but also to shape and sustain positive image of the country of their origin.She said that India offer and impressive example of excellent leadership in the management of Diaspora and has in a significant way to provide a model for other countries.

    She suggested for holding of PBD in Caribbean and assured a full support for such conference in her country. Bissessar started her address by saying Ram Ram and said in our country we great each other with Sita Ram.

    She said for Indians, who migrated to other countries long back, their country is like motherland but for them India is grandmother, so they should regard and respect Indian in that way.

    Speaking at the seminar on Global India — Inclusive Growth Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee gave the economic scenario of the country in the context of prevailing economy of the word. He said as our economic fundamentals are very much intact, our economy is set to rebound soon

    Talking to mediapersons Vayalar Ravi, Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs described the 10th PBD a grand success. He said in the previous PBDs turn out of participants was never more than 1,000. But this PBD is being attended by about 2,000 overeas Indians from 60 countries.
