Bal Thackeray attacks Team’s Gandhian ways
Pillorying Anna Hazare for using coercive methods to force his agenda on the Government, Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray on Sunday charged that the Gandhian’s way of holding the country to ransom through his fasts, was nothing but a “political rape”.
In an interview published in his party’s official mouth-piece “Saamna”, Thackeray said: “Things were different in pre-Independence days. When Mahatma Gandhi and others used to resort to fasts, the reasons were entirely different. How can one justify the objective behind Hazare’s undertaking fasts? The manner he thrusts in his agenda and coerces the Government through fasts is nothing but a political rape”.
Dubbing Arvind Kejriwal, Kiran Bedi and Manish Sisodia as “vagabonds” and all Team Anna members as “tainted”, Thackeray said: “Be it Kejriwal, Bedi or even Sisodia, they are all vagabonds. Shanti Bhushan’s (stamp) duty evasion scam has already come to light. Earlier, Kiran Bedi’s irregularities had surfaced. All these people are tainted ones”.
Reiterating that “corporate” houses were behind Hazare’s movement against corruption, the Sena chief said: “ There is something called corporate. Its role is not as simple as it looks. The ones behind the corporate houses are the same people who want to protect the interests of the foreign investors in India. Tell me, who gave money for Hazare’s five-star fasts? How does one explain caps carrying slogans like “I am Anna” worn by Hazare supporters?”
Thackeray demanded to know from Team Anna as to how the Congress and NCP put up an impressive performance in the recent municipal council polls, despite a fierce campaign against corruption indulged in the Congress-led governments in the state and at the Centre.
