Won’t target parties at campaign: Team Anna

Won’t target parties at campaign: Team Anna
In a major relief to the Congress, Team Anna on Tuesday announced that though it would go ahead with its campaign on the Jan Lokpal issue in five poll-bound States, it would not target any particular party.

“We will not campaign against or in favour of any party. This is not a battle that will last for just two months, but it is going to be a long haul. In this long battle, we will talk only about the need for systemic changes. We will create awareness among people only on this issue,” Arvind Kejriwal told mediapersons at Ralegan Siddhi.

Elaborating on Team Anna’s decision not to campaign against the Congress, Kejriwal said: “One thing that clearly emerges when we go and campaign against a particular party, people will ask you whom should they vote for. You are witness to whatever is happening during recent weeks. There is no such party that can be called a clean party, a party that deserves votes from people. It is because all parties carry the taint of corruption. That’s why we decided not to campaign against or in favour of any political party”

Earlier, Kejriwal and other Team Anna Prashan Bhushah and Kumar Vishwas met convalescing Hazare, briefed him on the deliberations at Monday’s core group meeting at Ghaziabad and took his advice on their impending campaign in the Assembly poll-bound States of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab,Uttrakhand, Goa and Manipur.

Dwelling upon circumstances leading to Team Anna’s decision to review its strategy vis-à-vis its campaign, Bhushan said: “It was the responsibility of the Government to bring in the Lokpal legislation. But the Government repeatedly betrayed us and the people of the country. Even the roles played by various other parties were doubtful. The consensus that emerged among us was that we would not campaign against any one particular party.”
