Rs10L for kin of staff who die on poll duty
The family of any official who dies during election duty would be given a sum of Rs10 lakh as ex gratia from the Government, according to guidelines of the Election Commission of India, district election officer, Almora district magistrate DS Garbyal, said on Tuesday.
In case of death of any poll personnel due to terrorist attack, murder by anti-social elements, accident, road mines or attack by weapons during election training or voting/counting, a compassionate amount of Rs10 lakh would be given to the family members of the deceased.
In case of poll personnel incurring a permanent handicap such as blindness or loss of limb, he would receive a grant of Rs2.5 lakh, Garbyal said.
In case a poll personnel dies of heart attack or other normal circumstances, his or her family members would be granted Rs5 lakh as per guidelines of the ECI.
