Haryana turns down UT request
The water woes of Chandigarh’s Sukhna Lake are not likely to end in the near future. In another jolt to the UT Administration, Haryana Government has turned down a request by Administration to supply water from Kaushalya Dam, constructed at Pinjore in Panchkula.
Last year, the UT Administration had requested the Haryana Government to supply water to Sukhna Lake from Kaushalya Dam to save it from water crisis.
The State Government has declined UT Administration’s proposal citing State’s other projects in the pipeline.
Lately, Haryana Government had embarked on a plan to end water woes by laying a water pipeline from Kaushalya Dam to Panchkula. As already a project is underway to provide water to Panchkula, the State Government has expressed its inability to assist the Administration in saving Sukhna Lake.
The refusal of neighbouring State Government to help the Administration in preserving Sukhna Lake has once again put the Administration in a piquant situation.
The Administration was banking on the assistance of neighbouring State and was hopeful of succeeding in getting a nod for the proposal.
