Split verdict by SC on Pak national facing death
A Pakistani national sentenced to death for masterminding bomb blast in Delhi in 1997 got temporary reprieve after the Supreme Court gave a split verdict on Wednesday on his appeal challenging conviction.
In the bench of Justices HL Dattu and CK Prasad who pronounced the decision, the former judge ordered a fresh trial noting that the accused was not allowed to cross-examine the witnesses.
But Justice Prasad was in favour of upholding the conviction and sentence concurrently held by the trial court and Delhi High Court. The matter has been referred to Chief Justice of India for constituting a fresh bench.
