Lucknow meets EC deadline, covers all statues
The Lucknow district administration finally completed draping of statues of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati and elephants on Wednesday, with officers and workers toiling throughout the day to meet the Election Commission’s deadline.
Since Wednesday morning, officials were seen busy at the sites. They told workers to cover up statues by evening at any cost. Workers remained busy throughout the day and by evening, all elephant statues in Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Samajik Parivartan Sthal were covered with yellow cloth.
Mayawati’s statue was also covered by wooden planks fixed on steel frame and draped. Steel frames were also put up around some elephant statues before covering them with cloth.
All elephants embossed on fountains were draped by brown cloth while some small elephant statues were covered by pink cloth.
District Magistrate Anil Kumar Sagar claimed that the statues directed to be covered had been draped within the deadline set by the Election Commission. There were 100 such statues — 10 of Mayawati and 90 of elephants.
