Japanese motorcycle maker Yamaha on Monday said it would sell over 4 lakh bikes in the domestic market this year compared to over 3.3 lakh units last year.
“Last year we sold over 3.3 lakh bikes on the back of increasing demand of our FZ and SZ series of bikes in the country. We grew 17 per cent last year as against 9 per cent the year before. We will sell over 4 lakh bikes in the domestic market this year compared to 3.3 lakh of last year,” said India Yamaha Motor National Business Head Roy Kurian while talking to The Pioneer.
The company is also planning to enter the scooter segment this year targetting young girls. “We plan to launch our scooter by the second-half of this year. With the launch of our scooter we will be present across all growing two-wheeler segment,” added Kurian.
When asked Yamaha has so much to offer in the scooter segment as it has displayed Mio, Fino and Xeon scooters at the Auto Expo, then why can’t the company launch them in the domestic market? Kurian said: “Though we have this kind of products available we want first to consolidate our motorcycle business. Our focus right now is more on bikes than on scooters.
