Mulayam vows to convert Maya’s parks into schools
At his election meetings at Allahabad and Kaushambi on Tuesday, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav announced to open hospitals and schools in memorials and parks set up by Mayawati. “It will be the most appropriate utilisation for these as nearly 40,000 acres of land has been gobbled up in the name of these parks,” said Mulayam.
The SP chieftain even stated that the hospitals and schools will be named after Dr BR Ambedkar. “If they are so interested in Ambedkar’s name, we will dedicate these public welfare projects in his name. There is no harm in naming them in Ambedkar’s memory if it is a presitge issue for them,” he said.
Mulayam however claimed that Mayawati has misused Ambedkar’s name.
“Had Dr Ambedkar been alive, he would have thrown her behind bars for so being neck deep in corruption,” he said.
However, at his speech at KP Inter College ground, Mulayam did not make a mention of his earlier promise of ‘jobs to rape victim’.
Concentrating mainly on the freebies - like free education, free power to farmers and weavers, increase in Kanya Vidya Dhan and unemployment allowance etc, Yadav urged people to vote in favour of Samajwadi Party.
“Some political parties are taking a dig at our manifesto but what we have mentioned is the product of our thinking and concern for the masses. We wil fulfill our commitment,” he said. He also announced free blankets to poor during winters, two sarees for each poor woman and motorised rickshaw for the rickshaw pullers.
Mulayam admitted that he was supervising the election with the sole motive to form Government. “This election is only for forming a SP Government which we will do at any cost. I have contested several elections in the past for other reasons, this one is for forming a Government,” he said.
His desperation was evident when he collected the memorandums by different groups. “We will fulfill every demand but first help us win the election,” he said.
After skipping several election meeting SP’s national general secretary, Azam Khan also accompanied Mulayam Singh at Allahabad on Tuesday. Azam focussed his address on Congress bashing raising Batla House encounter and Babri Masjid issue. He termed the 4.5 percent reservation quota for Muslims as a farce. “Congress has back stabbed you, so please be cautious about them and do not allow them to enter your mohallas,” he said.
The meeting was fairly well-attended unlike in Gonda meeting on Monday. In the 2007 polls, Allahabad had 11 Assembly seats. The BSP had the largest share of eight seats followed by BJP, SP and Congress with one seat each. After delimitation exercise, the city has 12 seats now.
