Cong takes on BJP, Swamy
The Congress on Monday slammed the BJP and Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy for attacking special judge OP Saini who has exonerated Home Minister P Chidambaram in the 2G scam and demanded that the opposition should apologise for attacking Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Chidambaram without having any evidence against them.
Congress spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi termed BJP and Swamy as “poor loosers who have no grace in public life and are not magnanimous.”
“This is the party after three judgments does not have the grace to say sorry, it does not have the grace to apologise. It does not even have the courage to accept its mistake. Instead they act with sour grapes. They are the poor losers. They attack the Judge,” he said.
Singhvi said that neither the BJP nor Swamy produced one shred of evidence showing intent, malafides, benefit etc. regarding the Prime Minister or the Home Minister. Yet they launched and strongly supported criminal prosecution, criminal proceedings and even obstructed and ostracised Chidambaram in Parliament by preventing him from answering questions.
Asked about DMK’s unhappiness over Congress criticising former Telecom Minister A Raja and the alliance partner reportedly reminding the Congress that they were together in the 2G scam, Singhvi said that the two parties are together in the UPA coalition but Raja has been found guilty of alleged distortion of the first-cum-first-service policy. “That is the fact of life but we are not saying that he is guilty or that we are condemning him.”
He said that Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi has rightly criticised the BJP that despite veteran leader LK Advani taking out a Rath Yatra on black money the Opposition inducted tainted former Uttar Pradesh Minister Babu Singh Kushwaha in the party and took no action on corruption charges against its own Government in Karnataka.
