Indian small weavers expected to get more incentives : Sharma
The Central Government recently indicated that it may give more financialsupport to the small weavers in India.
“It (Rs 6,234 crore) sounds an impressive figure; the time will come, we will revisit and will do more (for the weavers),” said Commerce and Textile minister Anand Sharma. He said that small weavers need to be empowered and if need be Government will do more within its own limit to support and train them.
In November 2011the Cabinet had cleared a debt waiver package of Rs 3,884crore. The remaining Rs 2350 crore was for weavers to uplift during the five year plan (2012-2017). The package would benefit 13 lakh handloom weavers in the country including 2 lakh in UP.
On Scheme for Integrated Textiles Parks (SITP) Sharma said that in the 11th Five year plan 40 Integrated Textile Parks were sanctioned, with a financial allocation of Rs 1400 Crores.
