Army gets new top legal officer
The Defence Ministry has cleared the appointment of Major General Prabhu Singh Rathore as the new Judge Advocate General (JAG) of the Army.
His appointment was delayed as a Lt Colonel had approached the Armed Forces Tribunal (AFT) alleging that Rathore had tried to harm his career prospects.
The top legal post was lying vacant after the retirement of the then JAG Major General B V Nair, who retired on January 31. Rathore’s name was cleared for the post last week and he will assume new responsibility in the next few days, officials said here on Monday.
As regards the case against him, the Kolkata bench of the AFT had stayed Rathore’s promotion but vacated it last month. Rathore was earlier serving as the Deputy Judge Advocate General (D-JAG) in the Jaipur-based South Western Army Command before proceeding to Army Headquarters here after promotion as Major General recently.
