Mahagujarat Janata Party president Gordhan Jhadafiya on Saturday castigated the Sangh Parivar for its silence over “the insult to the entire Hindu community by the BJP by depicting Chief Minister Narendra Modi as Lord Krishna.”
Himself a former Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh activist and a leader of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, the former Minister of State for Home in the Modi Cabinet said it was “shocking” that the Sangh Parivar that had “reared” the BJP, had lost the guts to stand up and protest against the ‘insult' to the Hindu community by Mr. Modi and the BJP.
Mr. Jhadafiya, who parted company with the BJP just before the 2007 Assembly elections following differences with Mr. Modi, said the BJP — under Mr. Modi — was neither a champion of Hinduism nor a protector of the Hindus.
Criticising the depiction of Mr. Modi as Lord Krishna and some other BJP leaders as the Pandavas in an advertisement published on behalf of the Amreli district BJP in some regional language dailies in the Saurashtra region, Mr. Jhadafiya wondered where Lord Krishna and his Pandavas were hiding when 371 temples in the State were ransacked, 164 temples looted, 54 head priests of various temples murdered and numerous young girls assaulted in the State.
Referring to the advertisement published on the occasion of State BJP president R.C. Faldu's launching the Kisan Yatra from Rajkot, Mr. Jhadafiya said the Modi government and the State BJP had no right to speak for the poor farmers as it was “exploiting” them to the hilt.
He said Mr. Faldu should have ensured that Mr. Modi brought down Value Added Tax on chemical fertilizer on par with other States before taking out the yatra.
He further alleged that while over 4.15 lakh farmers were awaiting power connection for pump irrigation, Narmada waters were being wasted in the absence of a canal network to which the State government was not paying any attention.
