A 43-year-old Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) employee and his wife have been arrested for allegedly poisoning their brother-in-law to death in Nand Nagri area of Northeast Delhi.

Dinesh Kumar and his wife Asha (35), residents of Nand Nagri E-Block, killed Sunil Kumar (30) on Wednesday as he had developed illicit relations with Asha and was also exploiting her financially.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Northeast, Sanjay Jain said, “The incident came to light when Sunil’s brother Narender approached police reporting that he did not return home from work on Wednesday. Sunil’s mobile phone was switched off. His body was later found at 10 am on Thursday at his relative’s house.

Accordingly, a case under Sections 302 (murder) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code was registered and investigation taken up. “From the analysis of the crime scene and evidence collected, prima facie it appears that the motive behind the murder was to eliminate Sunil and that it had been done by person whom the victim knew well,” Jain added. Narender had also raised suspicion over Dinesh, saying that Dinesh always suspected an illicit relationship between Sunil and Asha.

During interrogation, the duo disclosed that they wanted to get rid of Sunil as he had developed illicit relations with Asha and was continuously demanding money from her. “On the day of incident, Asha had called Sunil to her house for dinner and they poisoned his food,” Jain added.
