    Cong firm against sulking Virbhadra

Notwithstanding Virbhadra Singh flexing muscles by organising a meeting of his supporters on Wednesday to decide his future strategy, the Congress is not ready to give any assurance about projecting him as the Chief Ministerial candidate in the poll bound Himachal Pradesh.

The Congress has staunchly refused to change the composition of the Screening Committee a major grievance of Virbhadra and is ready to give just one concession of allowing him to contest the Assembly polls if he wants to.

Though veteran leader wants to jump in the poll fray to project himself as the CM in case of Congress victory, the party refuses to do so before the polls. It says that Congress has about half a dozen CM probable in the State including Virbhadra’s bete-noire Anand Sharma.

And recent appointment of Vijay Bahuguna as Uttrakhand CM despite being an MP, is giving sleepless nights to Virbhadra who apprehends that the history may repeat in his case also. So he has called a meeting of his sympathisers in Shimla to discuss strategy. However, the Congress is not perturbed as it feels that being in the party for past 50 years he will not leave the party just three months before polls likely to happen by October-end or November beginning.

Making light of Virbhadra’s public protests, a senior Congress leader said that just before elections every leader tries to press his claim and indulge in such tactics.
