1 shot at, 2 feared dead in Dhubri
One person was injured and two others had gone missing after a group of suspected miscreants fired at another group of people at Bongaldoba area in Dhubri district on Wednesday evening.
IGP (Law and Order) LR Bishnoi said that the incident took place when a group of seven people from a relief camp went for fishing in Beer Bil, a water body in Bongaldoba area under Chapar police station limits.
“The incident took place in the evening when the group was returning and someone fired at them from hillside. Five of them reported back in the camp including one with serious injuries,” Bishnoi said, adding that two persons remained missing till filing of the report.
“Police have launched a search operation in and around the area. It is difficult to comment at this moment whether any militants are involved in the incident or there is some rivalry among the groups,” he said.
The seven persons who had gone for fishing in the wetland were Bengali speaking Muslim settlers who were affected by the recent communal clashes in three Assam districts — Kokrajhar, Chirang and Dhubri — and were living in relief camps.
