    FCI officer nabbed taking bribe

    Food Corporation official arrested

A Food Corporation of India (FCI) official was arrested by the Anti Corruption Branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation in Bhopal on Saturday. General Manager Ashish Agrawal was caught at his

residence at 8.30 a.m. allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 5 lakhs from Delhi-based transporter Pawan Jindal.

Mr. Jindal’s firm RB Traders was hired by the FCI for loading and unloading grain from railway rakes. “Agrawal was demanding Rs. 10 lakhs for passing bills of Jindal amounting to Rs 85 lakhs. We laid a trap when we were informed of this. He was arrested immediately after he accepted the cash,” said a CBI source.

Mr. Agrawal is an officer of Indian Telecommunication Service on deputation to FCI since 2011. At the time of writing, searches were in progress at his Bhopal and Jabalpur residences.
