KOTTAYAM: Kerala Congress (Jacob) leader T.M. Jacob has said that the allegations made against the United Democratic Front (UDF) will be countered in a befitting manner.
Speaking to mediapersons here on Friday, Mr. Jacob said the recent series of accusations made by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) pointed to an attempt at gaining political mileage in the coming Assembly elections.
“The party has set out on a mission to wreak vengeance on the Opposition over certain forgotten issues. Such efforts will not achieve its intended end of creating a rift within the UDF. We will respond to the charges made against us and bring out the various issues against the LDF that demand greater prominence in the current scenario,” he said.
He said the allegations made against the leaders of the UDF were used as poll planks during the Assembly elections held in 2006.
“The Left parties have run short of means to influence the vote bank. This has prompted them to raise matters that have already been debated to a great extent,” he quipped.
Seats for party
Mr. Jacob expressed confidence that his party would be allocated a deserving number of seats in the Assembly elections.
The Kerala Congress (Jacob) will hold its State conference at the Thirunakkara ground here from February 21 to 23. Former MLA and party chairman Johnny Nellore will hoist the party flag on the opening day. A delegates' meet will be held on February 22. The concluding day will witness conferences of the party's feeder organisations.
Party general secretary Biju Mattappally also attended the press conference.
