The top five Malayalam films are: 
1. 'Baba Kalyani' - Mohanlal plays a cop heading the Anti-Terrorist Cell. Director Shaji Kailas has given a stylish makeover to his character. Critics may complain about the script's weakness, but the film is a treat for Mohanlal fans, which the box office collections testify.
2. 'Palunku' - Director Blessy brings out a middle-of-the-road film yet again where Mammootty plays a farmer, who migrates to the city to give his daughters better education. 'Palunku' has surely struck the right chord with the audience.
3. 'Smart City' - This is another typical thriller starring Suresh Gopi that is directed by newcomer B. Unnikrishnan.
4. 'Notebook' - Director Rosshan Andrrews tries to do an adolescent film with a bunch of newcomers. The film has good music and good performances but the story is a let down.
