Rs 3.10 Crore is the amount of money that was paid for the Kerala distribution rights of Tamil superstar Rajinikanth's new film 'Shivaji'.

It has almost become fashionable for distributors in Kerala to pay astronomical sums of money to buy the distribution rights of much-anticipated Tamil films. A few months ago, there was a rush to buy the rights of the Surya-Jyothika starrer 'Jillendra Oru Kaadhal'. The film flopped.
But this time around, everybody is convinced that nothing will go wrong with the Rajinikanth-Shankar film 'Shivaji'.
Palakkad Govindhan of GSR Combines had bought the distribution rights. The film is likely to be released in May 2007.
What has shocked the Malayalam film industry is- the most recent Jayaram-starrer 'Kanakasimhasanam', with a very decent star-cast was made with Rs 85 Lakhs. Why would anybody pay so much for a mere distribution right???
