International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Weekend
Each year, the IIFA Weekend & Awards enchant the world from an exotic locale. The culture, the colours, the locals, the flavours all become an inseparable part of the magic of IIFA, giving each IIFA Weekend & Awards its own unique experience.
Over a period of four days, IIFA enchants the host country with press conferences, parties, film premieres, film festivals, business forums, celebrity special events and the glamorous IIFA Awards Ceremony marked by out-of-the-world performances, pomp and pageantry and fans from all over the world.
November saw the National Media Museum, Bradford play host to International superstar of Indian cinema, Amitabh Bachchan for the official regional launch of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Weekend to the Yorkshire business community.
Mr Bachchan spoke at the reception alongside dignitaries from Yorkshire Forward, Yorkshire Tourist Board and the International Indian Film Academy who outlined the economic benefit for Yorkshire business partnerships with India.
With an estimated global audience for the IIFA awards in 2007 of more than 480 million, Mr Bachchan, who was voted BBC?s Superstar of the Millennium in 2000, focused on the rising popularity of Indian cinema as a major global business.
Now in its eighth year, the IIFA Weekend has previously visited Amsterdam, Dubai, Singapore, London, Malaysia and South Africa. As a direct consequence of the IIFA celebrations, tourism and business investment to each of these destinations has increased tremendously, making a major impact. Yorkshire was successful in its bid to attract the event organisers? attention and the bid presentation was supported by Prime Minister Tony Blair.
It is expected tickets for the event will be available in from February 2006.
