Slowly and steadily, Mamta Mohandas is charming her way into the hearts of the Telugu film industry where she recently made her debut as a playback singer. The film in question, 'Rakhi' has turned out to be a big hit.`
How did she get the chance? Mamta replies, "It happened when I had come down to Chennai for a photo-session of my film with Siddharth, named 'Aata'. I was sitting in the studio and humming to myself. Suddenly someone entered the room and wanted to know who was singing. I stood up. It turns out that the man was a very reputed music composer in Tollywood, Devi Shri Prasad. He asked me if I was interested in appearing for a voice test the next day. I thought, 'Why not'.
"He took my voice test tapes with him to Hyderabad and played them to the producer of 'Rakhi'. The producer liked my voice. The very next day, the music director returned to Chennai. We began to record the song. It was a fast-paced number. Its specialty was that all the background accompaniments were traditional Kerala music instruments," she ended.
Mamta Mohandas is very serious about simultaneously concentrating on both singing and acting.
Mamta Mohandas is not playing the female lead role in 'Aata', the film with Siddharth. But the film's music director has assured her that he'd give her chances to sing.
