President A.P.J.Abdul Kalam's tenure as the President of India is coming to an end by the mid of this year. There are already talks of his successor. Now that President Abdul Kalam has decided not to contest for the second tenure, political parties are trying to project their candidates.

The new name to float around for the post of President of India is the Big B Amitabh Bachchan. It is learnt that Amitabh has the support of Samajwadi party and Telugu Desam Party.
Everyone knows the close relationship between Amitabh and Amar Singh of Samajwadi party. Amitabh's wife Jaya Bachchan was the Samajwadi party's Rajya Sabha MP not long ago before she was made to resign for holding an office of profit. Amar Singh said "Amitji is like a kite and he can travel to any greater heights. Let's see how far he goes". This comment has also had some sharp reactions from the opposite camp. They say if Amitabh is the Kite then is Samajwadi party the rope that takes the kite to such heights? One of the leading congress party men said "Amitabh has a great popularity, but this country's fate is not bad enough for an actor to become the President and luckily it is not the Telugu desam party or the Samajwadi that decides on the Presidency of our country". The other contenders for the post are Vice-president Bairon Singh Shekawat and Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chaterjeee.
