After starring in three consecutive offbeat films, it looked for a while if the audience will be willing to accept Mammooty in one of his light-hearted larger-than-life characters.

But it looks as if the audience was only too happy to see him in a masala film!!!
It all began with 'Karuthapakshikal'. The film was very well appreciated by the critics but the box office wasn't all that happy about it. This was followed by 'Palungu'. Critics adored the film. But this time around, director Blessy's film only produced mixed results at the box office. It recovered its costs but didn't make huge profits like the other films, 'Kaazcha' and 'Thanmatra' did.
Mammooty's third offbeat film in the series was 'Kaioppu'.
Then, 'Maayavi' arrived, much to everybody's relief.
The film has become the first big hit of the year 2007. Shafi had previously directed Mammooty in 'Thommanum Makkalum'. That was a superhit too.
It's nice to see Mammooty back in such roles!
