Bachchans sell marriage rights to UK TV channel

Not a day goes by without speculating something about the First Family of the Indian entertainment industry- the Bachchans. The gossip of the day is the broadcast rights of the Big Small wedding that took place a few days ago.

Amitabh Bachchan was very particular about keeping the Indian media as far away as possible from the wedding. The nation thought it understood the way Big B felt. Who would want the press to intervene in a function as personal and private as a wedding?

But rumors are now on that the entire obsession with privacy was due to the fact that the Bachchans had negotiated exclusive broadcast rights with a UK-based TV channel for a sum of Rs 5 Crores.

They initially tried to negotiate a contract with Hello magazine. You might recollect that the magazine had paid an astronomical amount of money to cover the wedding of Liz Hurley and Arun Nayar. The magazine wasn't that keen on covering this marriage too. But the TV channel was more forthcoming. That was the reason why the otherwise media-friendly Bachchans were so insistent on absolute privacy for this wedding.

More than the event and the chemistry between the couple, everybody was curious to see what the bride and groom looked like in their over-hyped wedding costumes. That was all.

Next time some celebrity screams for privacy, you can rest assured that a TV contract is on.
