In his initial days as filmmaker, Manirathnam used to always work with Ilayaraaja. The two had together created musical hits that are still popular in South India. But after AR Rehman's entry, Manirathnam had almost made him a regular feature in all his films. The musical compositions that the new team has produced had become hits all over the country and even among NRIs.

So, does Manirathnam still miss working with Maestro Ilayaraaja?
"Ilayaraaja is undoubtedly a genius when it comes to composing music. When I hear his music, I still cherish the fond memories that they evoke. I always wanted to make a film with a very unusual story and powerful music. When I find a story like that, I intend to approach Ilayaraaja to compose the tunes.
"Only he is capable of giving me the kind of music that I'm looking for. When I begin the work, I'd love to have him as the music composer if he's interested," says the ace director.
