After lots of postponements and delays, the government finally announced the winners of the awards for best films released in the year 2005. there were quite a few award winners from Malayalam too.
Amitabh Bachchan won the award for best actor for the Hindi film 'Black', in which he played the role of an eccentric but extremely talented musician. Sarika, the former wife of Kamalhasan, won the award for best actress for the English film 'Parzania'. The Vidhya Balan-starrer 'Parineetha' won the award for best debutant director. Pradeep Sarkar won the award.
Bengali film 'Kaalpurush' was declared the best film.
Urvashi won the award for Best Supporting Actress. It was for her performance in 'Achuvinde Amma'. Director Jayaraj's 'Devianaamathil' won the Nargis Dutt award for best film on national integration.
Madhu Ambatt won the Best Cinematographer award for the Tamil film 'Shringaram'.
