Bollywood knows well the formula for success. Whatever be the story, mix a little bit of patriotism in it and success is assured! This can be seen in the success of Aamir Khan's 'Lagaan' followed by 'Rang De Basanti.' One can also include super hit 'Laage raho Munnabhai' in this list.

Like 'Lagaan,' another film with a mix of sports and patriotism has been made in Bollywood. Titled 'Chakde India,' the film stars Shahrukh Khan.
India's one time hockey goal keeper is Miranjan Negi. In the 1982 India-Pakistan hockey match at Delhi, Pakistan won by 1-7 goals. For this pathetic defeat, Negi was accused of having taken bribe and caused India's defeat by playing badly. A heart broken Negi resigned from the team. He later became the coach for the women's hockey team and in 2002, he helped the team win the gold medal at the Manchester Commonwealth Games.
'Chakede India' is inspired by this true incident, bust the hero is a captain in the film. Once the Captain played by Shahrukh Khan, is out of the team, he becomes the coach for the ladies team. He is pained to see the team members each play for her own self, to earn for higher studies or for livelihood and there's internal conflict among the members as well. He goes to Australia to participate in the World Cup and make the team evolve into a successful one winning over personal rivalries for the good of the game.
When everyone is veering towards cricket, our national game hockey has been totally eclipsed. Hockey fans are confident 'Chakde India' will turn the attention of youngsters to hockey. The cast, who were given basic training in Mumbai by former Indian hockey captain Dhanraj Pillai, also believes in this.

This film also strengthens the notion that women in sports should be given more importance. The Indian Women's Hockey Association also believes this film will draw attention to women's hockey in India.
When will we start making such confidence boosting films in Tamil?
