The incident happened a few decades ago when Balachander Menon was shooting for one of his films. It was a dance sequence at an outdoor location.
When he wasn't shooting, Balachander Menon was watching the group dancers practice. Sundaram was the dance choreographer. There was a young lad who was constantly rehearsing with the group dancers when Sundaram was on a break.
Something about the boy impressed Balachander Menon immensely. He could dance so beautifully! During the lunch break, he called the boy and began speaking to him.
"Are you acting in films" he asked.
"No, I don't know anything about acting," the teenager replied.
"But you should. You dance and emote so beautifully. Let me speak to your boss and see if he lets you to act," Menon said.
"Sundaram isn't my boss. He's my dad," was the reply. In spite of lots of requests, the boy refused to act and stuck to dancing.
Years later, he became a dancer, dance choreographer, actor and now a director.
