I mean it happens all the time in bollywood, look at all the actors and actresses
If you could grab a screenshot it would look like they were westerners. The fairer your skin color the better chance you have at making it in Bollywood, personally I'm even suspicious that they don't care about your acting ability, just as long as you have fair skin you can start acting.
I've always held the belief of being fairer is more beautiful though, I really don't find darker skinned people that attractive. Maybe its in my upbringing or maybe its from what I have been fed from television.
I think I'm blessed that I come from a state that has a very fair skin tone, akin to the people from Karnataka. The people from Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu do generally give us keralites an unfair image of what we look like, this is further deteriorated with Russel Peters standup comedy stating that south indians are extremely dark. I know outside of India people only know of bollywood/hindi and a small proportion know about Tamil people, but I hate being stereotyped as the 'dark south Indians'.
Whenever I get asked about my nationality its always the same protocol. "Do you speak Hindi?" "No, I'm from south India" "Oh wow you don't look it"
I don't look it? I get so frustrated whenever I hear that.
Anyways I just wanted to know if it was racism or just what we are led to believe.
