    Ven Pongal Recipe tamilnadu dish


    Rice - 1 cup
    Green gram(Moong Dal/Pasi Paruppu) - 1 cup
    Curry leaves - 4 - 5 nos
    Cumin seeds(Jeerakam) - 1 tsp
    Whole black pepper - 1/2 tsp
    Cashew nuts - 7 - 8 nos
    Ghee - 2 tbsp
    Salt - As reqd

    1)On a low flame, roast the moong dal for few minutes or till it changes its color.

    :- No oil is required for roasting.

    2)Boil 8 cups of water and add rice and dal to it.

    3)Add salt as required.

    4)Keep on a medium flame and cook till done.

    :- If required, add more water.

    5)Heat ghee in a separate kadai or a pan.

    6)Add cumin seeds, black pepper, curry leaves and cashew nuts and saute well.

    7)Pour this over the cooked rice and dal and mix well.

    :- Serve hot. Sambar and Chutney will go well with this pongal.
