PM to attack Tory economic plans

The prime minister is to campaign in Scotland as the economy continues to dominate the early days of the election campaign. The Conservatives are to say it is time to kick start the Scottish economy and will resume their attack on Labour's plans to increase national insurance.

The SNP will campaign on the issue of rising fuel prices. They want to freeze duty and reduce costs in remote areas.

The Liberal Democrats are to talk about their plans for the elderly.

Danny Alexander, the Lib Dem candidate for Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey, will visit a fundraising coffee morning in the Highlands, to highlight his party's plans for older and disabled people.

He will argue for the link between pensions and earnings to be restored.

The party will also outline plans to tackle fuel poverty to benefit both carers and the people they care for.

Elsewhere, Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who spoke in his home constituency of Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath on Friday evening, is expected to contrast his plans for the economy with those of the Conservatives, who he will accuse of wanting to choke off the recovery from the recession.

SNP leader and Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond will be in the north east to highlight "rocketing" fuel prices and the effect they are having on rural communities.

The Conservatives' Scottish campaign manager, David McLetchie, will highlight his party's plans to rebuild the economy. This article is from the BBC News website. ? British Broadcasting Corporation, The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites.
