    Mother's knife plea to youngsters

The mother of a 20-year-old man who died on Christmas Eve hopes a march to highlight knife crime will discourage youngsters from carrying weapons. The family and friends of Anthony Burke have organised the walk from Rhyl's Sea Life Centre to Rhuddlan Castle later.

Cindy Burke said she expects many youngsters from the area to join the march and hopes it will make people think twice about carrying knives.

A 19-year-old man has been charged with Mr Burke's murder.

Mrs Burke said: "I don't want anyone to feel like me, my son and my daughter feel and are going to feel for the rest of our lives.

"The pain felt by families is unimaginable."

She said she is hoping "several hundred" people will join her, her family and Mr Burke's friends on the march that starts at 1400 BST.

A near neighbour and mother of one of her son's best friends will address the crowd at Rhuddlan Castle.

A pupil who attends Mr Burke's former school will also read a piece she wrote about knife crime following his death.

Lady Janet Jones, the High Sheriff of Clwyd, is taking part along with a number of politicians from various parties but Mrs Burke said it was a non-political event.

"If it saves just one young life and one family going through what we are going through it will have been worth it," she added. This article is from the BBC News website. ? British Broadcasting Corporation, The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites.
