Stab murder charge to be dropped

A murder charge against a man who stabbed a teenage burglar to death in his mother's Nottinghamshire home is to be dropped, his lawyers have said.Tyler Juett, 17, and a boy of 14 broke into the property in Old Basford in March 2009 and were then confronted by 23-year-old Omari Roberts.

Juett was stabbed and died later. Now lawyers for Mr Roberts say the CPS will not contest his not guilty plea.

Mr Roberts' mother had called the decision to prosecute "outrageous".

Jacqueline McKenzie-Johnson claimed her son was acting in self-defence.

It is not known if Mr Roberts will continue to face a related charge of wounding the boy of 14 with intent when he appears at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday.

That charge appeared on the indictment at his crown court appearance in November.

The 14-year-old pleaded guilty at the city's youth court in May last year to a charge of burglary and was ordered to be detained for two years. This article is from the BBC News website. ? British Broadcasting Corporation, The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites.
