    Labour launches Scots manifesto

Scottish Labour is launching its election manifesto ahead of polling day on 6 May.The document is being unveiled by Scottish Secretary Jim Murphy at the site of the former Ravenscraig steelworks in Motherwell.

Mr Murphy is expected to highlight the economic legacy of Margaret Thatcher in Scotland.

He will also say Ravenscraig symbolises the difference between the policies of his party and the Conservatives.

The party pledged to have no "reckless" public spending cuts this year, and said it would rebuild the economy with hi-tech jobs.

It also made a commitment to protect schools, the NHS and policing.

Speaking at the new Motherwell College building which now sits on the Ravenscraig site, Mr Murphy is due to say: "Scotland is at a turning point; we can either go backwards with the Tories' cuts or forward with Labour's plans for the future.

"In many ways Ravenscraig speaks for Scotland. The Tories left people to fend for themselves as the area was abandoned to decline.

"Labour invested in this area, built the new college and is still rebuilding in Ravenscraig."

The Scottish Labour manifesto contains commitments in policy areas including education and health, even though these are devolved to the Scottish Parliament. This article is from the BBC News website. ?
