SNP leader Alex Salmond has urged Scots to vote for an "alternative vision of the future" as he launched the party's election campaign.The Scottish first minister attacked Labour and the Tories for cuts which he said posed a danger to public services.
He pledged the SNP would offer candidates who would champion their communities and country.
Mr Salmond added: "Our nation deserves more, much more than a decade of dismal cuts from Tory and Labour."
Launching the campaign, Mr Salmond accused Labour and the Conservatives of intending to fight a "phoney" election war.
He said both parties intended cuts, but would not detail exactly where the axe is going to fall once they are in government.
Mr Salmond said the SNP campaign was based on six principles, which included spelling out the "real and present" danger to Scotland that the London parties posed to public services.
He said the party would field local candidates who would articulate the concerns of their communities.
Parliamentary alliance
The party would champion an economic policy which would seek to increase prosperity through development of the green economy, rather than risk further recession, he said.
A parliamentary alliance with Plaid Cymru would also be formed, the SNP leader said.
Mr Salmond said: "Running like a thread through our campaign we will detail an alternative future where through independence and control of our own resources, Scotland can create both a prosperous economy and a just society."
He added: "At this election Scotland can choose champions, local and national champions.
