    Council leader in assault caution


    The leader of Manchester City Council has been cautioned by police after an allegation of assault against his 16-year-old step-daughter.Sir Richard Leese, a Labour councillor, was arrested at his home in the Crumpsall area of the city on Monday.

    He was taken to Salford police station. After accepting the caution Sir Richard was released on Tuesday evening.

    It is believed a complaint of physical assault was made by Sir Richard's step-daughter.

    In a statement, the Labour group, which runs Manchester City Council, said: "Councillor Leese was detained last night following an incident at home.

    "He was released today with a caution, and there is no further legal action pending.
