    Police 'looking into' care deaths

    Police are investigating the death of an 81-year-old woman at a Tyneside care home and are looking into the circumstances of 15 others.The elderly woman was a resident of St Michael's View Nursing Home in South Shields when she died in February.

    A post-mortem examination showed she died of bronchial pneumonia.

    Detectives said they launched the inquiry after a 45-year-old woman voluntarily attended South Shields police station.

    A spokesman said: "Northumbria Police are investigating the death of an 81-year-old woman at St Michael's View Nursing Home, South Shields and, as part of this process, police are looking into the circumstances surrounding 15 other residents' deaths.
