A 12-year-old British girl has died and a boy has been injured in a hit-and-run car accident on Gran Canaria.Abigail Harris from Dewsbury died after being hit by the car, which is believed to have mounted a pavement in the south of the island, on Sunday evening.
A boy who was with her and is also from the West Yorkshire town was injured in the accident and is being treated in hospital, the Spanish Civil Guard said.
A spokesman said a man and a woman had been arrested over the incident.
A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: "We can confirm two British nationals were involved in a hit-and-run car accident in Gran Canaria on 18 April.
"Sadly, one of the British nationals died. Another British national has been hospitalised.
