The BBC has been given exclusive access to the Queen's Royal Lancers as they prepare for their deployment to Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

Since December 2009 we have been following five soldiers from the Catterick-based armoured reconnaissance regiment (pictured above) through the three main stages of their rigorous training.

Here they share their hopes and fears for their forthcoming time in combat as they explain what the preparations involve.
