    BNP to 'end Muslim immigration'

The British National Party (BNP) are to launch their election manifesto later. They say they are the only party which would curb "mass" immigration into the UK, permitting migrants in future only in "exceptional circumstances".

The party are expected to propose giving grants to encourage some UK residents to return to what they call "their lands of ethnic origin".

The BNP recently changed their whites-only membership policy after it was ruled unlawful by the courts.

Their opponents say they are extreme and their policies divisive.

Their manifesto launch will take place in Stoke-on-Trent, one of the BNP's target seats and where they currently have a number of city councillors.

Although they got two MEPs elected to Brussels in last year's European Parliament elections, they received less than 1% of the national vote in the 2005 UK general election.

The party are hoping to get their first MP elected to Westminster but the BBC's Political Correspondent Ross Hawkins said they would need a much stronger performance than five years ago to do so.

The BNP are campaigning on a platform of curbing immigration, leaving the European Union and withdrawing British troops from Afghanistan.

They advocate deporting all illegal immigrants and reviewing all recent grants of residence and citizenship to see whether they are still "appropriate".

BNP leader Nick Griffin, who is standing in Barking and Dagenham, has also called for restrictions on imports from China to help protect jobs in British manufacturing and avert "economic disaster".This article is from the BBC News website. ?
